Hunter Park

The New Heart of Newcastle

Newcastle is Australia’s seventh largest city and one of the fastest growing regions. By 2056 more than 760,000 people are expected to call Greater Newcastle home.

The Hunter Park precinct is 63-hectares of land located in Broadmeadow, five kilometres west of Newcastle CBD. The precinct is surrounded by several catalyst areas in Greater Newcastle including John Hunter Hospital, University of Newcastle, Port of Newcastle, and Newcastle Airport. Its proximity and access to these areas makes it an ideal location for a new hub of world-class sporting and entertainment facilities, supported by great retail, commercial, and mixed-use development opportunities.

Our goal is to deliver a multifunctional space that provides an active, vibrant, connected new place operating 24/7 for our community and visitors alike.

The role of sporting and entertainment precincts is critical to supporting our growing city by creating jobs, attracting investment and tourism, extending our visitor economy, and enabling great places where future generations can live and thrive.

Venues NSW is working alongside local and state government agencies, and the private sector, to set out how and where to deliver quality jobs, affordable homes and open space that are activated by transport, schools, hospitals and other social infrastructure.

In June 2021, the NSW Government committed $6.7m to progress the planning of Hunter Park.

The Hunter Park redevelopment team are currently preparing a Business Case which is on track to be submitted to cabinet for consideration in late 2022.
