Darts Star Peter “Snakebite” Wright Eager for Aussie Return in 12 Months

Thursday 19 August 2021 9:00am

Darts superstar Peter "Snakebite" Wright is counting down the days until his return to Australia for the Professional Darts Corporation’s (PDC) World Series of Darts events next August.

Colourful star Wright, a former Melbourne Darts Masters champion, will be one of the headline attractions at the PalmerBet NSW Darts Masters in Wollongong.

That event at the WIN Entertainment Centre begins in exactly a year, on August 19 2022, as 16 players compete across two days.

Wright's title rivals are likely to include current World Champion Gerwyn Price, three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen and Australian stars Simon Whitlock and Damon Heta.

The 51-year-old won last month's World Matchplay in the UK as full crowds returned to PDC events for the first time, and Wright is already looking forward to the World Series' return Down Under in 2022.

"The last 18 months have been tough for everyone but it's brilliant that we've got fans back at events in Europe," said Wright, famed for his colourful Mohawk hairstyles and flamboyant walk-on.

"You want to perform for the fans, and they bring something extra out of all of us players. When you walk out and get introduced in front of fans in the arenas it's an amazing feeling.

"Having fans back was a massive boost throughout the World Matchplay and to lift the trophy in front of them was special.

"We can't wait to come back to Australia next year - the fans there are awesome and winning in Melbourne was one of the highlights of my career.

"If I could win in Australia again it would be really special for me."

The PalmerBet NSW Darts Masters will be held on August 19-20 2022 at WIN Entertainment Centre. Tickets are available through
