Cold Chisel to entertain our firies

Thursday 16 January 2020 7:00am

Thousands of Rural Fire Service volunteers and their families will get free tickets to watch legendary Aussie rock bands Cold Chisel and Hoodoo Gurus at Bankwest Stadium next week.

Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said it’s just another way we can say thank you to the men and women who fought so bravely to battle blazes across our State.

“This is a small gesture that we hope can bring some joy to the firies that have shown extraordinary courage and sacrifice in the face of devastation,” Mr Lee said.

Over 2,500 tickets will be released by the NSW Government to the RFS, which will allocate the seats to volunteers.

Cold Chisel will be joined at Bankwest Stadium by special guests Hoodoo Gurus, Birds of Tokyo and Busby Marou on Friday, 24 January.

“I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the selfless emergency service staff and volunteers who continue to work tirelessly to protect our homes, communities and way of life,” Mr Lee added.

Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott said some of our RFS volunteers have been on the frontline fighting the blazes since August.

“They have risked their lives to protect the community - they are the definition of Australian heroes,” Mr Elliott said.

“I’m thrilled to see the entertainment industry get behind our volunteers and give them an opportunity to have a good time. No one joins the RFS for praise or accolades, but I couldn’t think of a group of men and women more deserving.”

NSW Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said it’s been a devastating and tragic fire season and NSW RFS members have been working tirelessly for months to protect the community.

“Despite this adversity, there’s been incredible generosity shown by the Australian people. We’re grateful to the NSW Government for offering our members tickets to the Cold Chisel concert, so they can take time out to enjoy a night off with these Aussie rock legends,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

Fans attending the Blood Moon Tour concert will be able to donate directly to the NSW Rural Fire Service and other bushfire relief funds on the night.

Cold Chisel has already pledged a six-figure sum to fire services and other support networks.
